Kochie leaves Sunrise, Premier reshuffles newsroom & MAFS star turns TV Host
Curious about what’s going on in our island home this week? We’ve wrapped up this week’s highlights, from national-record-breaking TV departures, to government stirrups, and insider entertainment gossip.
End of an Era – Kochie announces departure from Sunrise.
David ‘Kochie’ Koch announced that he would leave Sunrise after a record 20 years on the show.
The 67-year-old announced his resignation from Seven’s flagship program just after 8 am on Monday in-between stories.
He told viewers after “21 years and 5300 shows” he felt it was time to pass on to the next generation. Koch said the move would allow him to focus on his family and business interests. Including his marketing company, Pinstripe Media, which he co-owns with his wife, Libby.
Seven are tipping that they will appoint Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington as host from June 5th. Shrivington is a long-time fill-in for Koch and is likable to Seven’s executives and audiences.
“Every day I’m Shuffling” – Anastacia Palaszczuk reshuffles the Queensland Nine Newsroom.
Queensland Premier, Annastasia Palaszczuk, has reshuffled the Nine Newsroom in the wake of her extraordinary hiring spree.
The Nine Newsroom is decimating by Palaszczuk’s poaching over the past 18 months. Her government allegedly hired up to a dozen of Nine’s most senior talent, seduced by six-figure salaries.
The departures occurred when Nine’s Brisbane 6 pm bulletin is trailing Seven’s equivalent in Brisbane’s commercial news ratings in 2023.
Nine Brisbane’s head of news, Amanda Peterson sent an email out at 4:51 am to all Brisbane staff, announcing the new appointments. “The renewed positive energy in the newsroom is contagious,” Paterson tells the remaining team.
‘Little Miss MAFS’ HUGE career move.
Additionally, Former Married at First Sight contestant, Evelyn Ellis, was spotted filming as a Television host for Channel Nine this week.
Tipped as ‘Channel Nine’s new darling’, Ellis is “very keen to pursue a career as a Television presenter and has been brushing up her skills” a network source revealed.
Ellis is known to Nine executives and audiences from Australia and the UK as “a popular, relatable, and likable” TV personality.
An insider has revealed that Nine are “keeping to keep Evelyn in the family” with potential opportunities, hosting segments on Today Extra, landing in her digital series, or appearing on Celebrity Apprentice.
Ellis recently appeared at Cannes in Cairns speaking on a MAFS keynote alongside her boyfriend, Duncan James, and Nine’s CMO and Head of Content.
