MasterChef’s Hayden Quinn and Reynold Poernomo say new season is most intense yet
MasterChef’s NSW contestants Hayden Quinn and Reynold Poernomo have revealed competition in the new season is of the highest level.
New South Wales contestants Hayden Quinn (season 3) and Reynold Poernomo (season 7) told Confidential that the stiff competition requires more creativity and risk-taking in the kitchen.
Questions however about the future of reality TV cooking shows were raised earlier this month after Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules premiered to its lowest ratings ever.
The season 11 premiere of MKR: The Rivals debuted to 498,000 viewers across the five city metro market, registering as the franchise’s lowest launch ever according to OzTam ratings figures.
Media expert Nicole Reaney of InsideOut Public Relations told Confidential that while MKR and MasterChef are both reality cooking shows, their formats are completely different.
“The era of reality cooking shows are at a tipping point and there could be an element of audience fatigue,” she said.
“On the one hand you have MKR that has transitioned from the joy of cooking to a showcase of drama to MasterChef that is premiering with a new host line up. The success of MasterChef will be its ability to drum up successful publicity and engagement with its audience ahead of its premiere.”
