IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK: KIM K AND PETE DAVIDSON, PR STUNT OR RELATIONSHIP?
Kim Kardashian performed on SNL only a month ago and has already been linked to the show’s resident funny guy Pete Davidson ever since. Whilst neither party have confirmed the status of their relationship, the two have been caught out by the paparazzi numerous times.
Relationship rumours started getting momentum after the pair were first pictured at an Italian restaurant in Staten Island, and then at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica – a restaurant that the paparazzi are known to frequent – in other words, the pair could expect to get photographed. The most recent sighting saw Davidson with a noticeable hickey on his neck, is this 8th grade?
This is Kim Kardashian’s first relationship after her separation from Kayne West. Whilst many fans are delighted by the match, others are calling it a ‘PR’ stunt to distract from the Kardashian’s connection to Travis Scott’s Astroworld tragedy.
Ten lives were lost at Scott’s Nov 5 Astroworld concert in Houston, after the mosh pit became dangerously overcrowded and the event highly understaffed. Travis Scott is now facing over 2 billion dollars in lawsuits from festival attendees to security guards placing most of the blame on the rapper.
Since the news of Pete and Kim’s potential relationship became public, the coverage of the Kardashian family has been widely dominated by this narrative. Working in the favour of the other Kardashian/Jenner’s as they work towards building a better reputation following Astroworld.
Coming from a strictly PR perspective, if this was a bid to distract us, it has worked perfectly. Shifting the focus while things are still fresh is a smart move and something that has been done time and time again. However, in this instance it would be more important to concentrate on the tragedies of Astroworld and making sure something like this never happens again.
Although if it is genuine… Go Kim Kardashian.
